I met Dan in May of 1976 when I was 20 years old.
He passed away on May 21, 2016. I was 60 in March. We were together for exactly 40 years. We became adults together, we raised our children together, we loved our family together. We made a commitment that lasted 40 years that flew by. About six months before he passed away I would give reminders to him of doctor's instructions. Dan would kiddingly say "Okay, Attila." I took that for about a week. One day he repeated it. I turned to him and said, "May I remind you that I'm not Attila...I'm Attila the Honey." Shortly after Dan passed away a friend stopped by and as she was leaving she gave me a hug and said "You lost the love of your life." And I said "Yes, I guess I did."
